Wedding of Josh and Allison at Cathedral Christ the King in Superior, WI

What a wonderful day filled with laughter and emotion.  It was the perfect way to kick off my 2017 wedding season.  We started their day at Cathedral Christ the King in Superior, WI.

Side note: I really just want to note how amazing Father Andy is to work with.  He is able to perfectly balance the importance of the wedding ceremony and our job as photographers.  It is my job to go unnoticed.  He takes the time to walk us through the ceremony and even points out the perfect time to sneak up and sit in the first pew for some up close images during the ceremony.  He is a fabulous teammate :).

One thing about Josh and Alli that I absolutely loved was that they scheduled special time for us to get photos with their pups.  Anyone who places that much importance on their animals are my kind of people!

Not only did they carve out time to get photos with their pets, but we had the most amazing time line, with two separate spots for photos of the two of them.  Plus, everyone was on time!  That rarely happens at weddings!

My favorite part about Josh and Alli's wedding was the love they have for not only share with each other, but their families, as well.  There was so much emotion shared throughout the day between all of them that we caught ourselves getting teary eyed several times, right along with them.

PS..... Shout out to the most excellent videographer, Mason Lehto!  We made a great team that day!

Erin and Tony | Bayfield Wedding and Engagement Photography

Lake Superior engagement session in Bayfield, WI | Duluth Wedding Photographer, Mad Chicken Studio | Houghton Falls

Sometimes a bride ends up with two weddings dresses.  Don't judge... it happens.  So the big question, is what do you do with the first dress?  I think what Erin chose a really unique way to showcase her first dress love.  She and her fiance, Tony, decided to step up their engagement game a little, to the formal level.

We met up at Houghton Falls for the session.  Houghton Falls just so happens to be the original location for Tony and Erin's wedding.  It is where Erin had her maternity session a couple of years ago, but sadly {and not so sadly}, their guest list outgrew the location.  But it was to the benefit to their engagement session :)... plus we did quite a bit of hiking, so you know... workout, and whatnot.

Back to Erin's dress.... her first dress, it looked like something Cinderella would wear.  I just loved it, but just wait until you see her actual wedding dress... brace yourself, you might faint!  I won't give you any details, but you will just have to trust me.  You won't have to wait too terribly long, since their wedding is in June!

Ok, back to the session.  Erin chose two locations along our hike to do photos.  The first was this amazing sunken overlook.  Below were some small waterfalls that was surrounded by some really interesting landscape, and trees above.  Funny story, I get them all set up for their first set of images.  When she looked up at Tony, who is quite a bit taller, her beautiful hairpiece from Saffron and Grey fell out of her hair and down the cliff..... all. the. way. to. the. bottom. I was so sad, because you know anything that comes from Saffron and Grey is pure perfection.  We had a small moment of silence and we didn't let it dampen the rest of the session.

The second location on our hike, captured my heart.  I will say that I am not unique when I say that I absolutely love Lake Superior.  It is a requirement, if you live in its vicinity.  There is something that just so special about the lake, it is like the edge of world.  Especially when there is a lookout right on the lake.  It looks like nothing exists past Erin and Tony.  For that moment in time, nothing really did exist past them.  It was if time stopped, and everything stood still.  There is just something so magical about being in such a secluded location in nature.  I honestly could have stayed out there all night, but we had to beat the chance of rain, back to our cars.

Minneapolis Engagement Photography | Rob and Jackie

Ok, let me set the scene....

It's no secret that I gladly travel to the Twin Cities Metro Area for my couples.  I typically just schedule those engagement sessions around a weekend when I am already scheduled to be in the area.  This allows me to visit locations if need me, and do any needed planning.  However, it just so happened that the weekend of Rob and Jackie's engagement session, everything else got cancelled!  Well I surely wasn't going to reschedule their session, so I made a little day trip for their session.  I'm so glad I did, and you will see why below.  BUT I did not get a chance to visit the location ahead of time... how bad could it be right?

I grabbed the address, but when I arrived, it was an address for baseball fields.  I drove around to find the location I intended on.  I thought I did, so I called Jackie quick and told her where it was.  I walk around quick while I wait for Rob and Jackie to meet up with me, and I noticed that I WAS AT A DOG PARK!!!!

Naturally, this made me happy, because I was surrounded by puppies... but it was still not the location that I was planning on.  Rob and Jackie arrived, and I had a major life giving me lemons moment.  I told them where we were, we all laughed and decided to make it work!

I'm so glad we did, because the thing about this dog park.... it was the most glorious dog park I have ever seen.

Rob and Jackie were so natural in front of the camera, and it really helps that they are not afraid to show their love for each other to the world.

We shared embarrassing stories {don't worry, I keep these stories secret ;)}, discussed in length that tater tot hot dish was better with cheese {duh}, and they are looking forward to the new season of The Walking Dead to come to Netflix {shhhhh... they are still a season behind}, and I hope that they bought the streaming version on Amazon so that we can talk about it at their wedding in July.  I mean, who doesn't want to talk about zombies on their wedding day!?
